Meet Woni Spotts

Tell us how your travels began.
I traveled as a small child, but I began recording my travels when I participated in an independent film that had the goal of visiting every country.
How does traveling make you feel?
I feel like I’m alive. It’s the only thing I get excited about. I’m never disappointed.
Where did you receive your first passport stamp?
As a child, I don’t remember my early travel or if a passport was required like it is now. My first passport stamp as a teen was in the Caribbean.
Other than your passport, what is one thing you cannot travel without?
My phone!
What is the most shocking cultural difference that you have experienced will visiting another country?
When I visited South Africa during Apartheid, I was appalled and angered. I had never seen institutionalized racism.
Tell us about a time when something went wrong while traveling and how was it resolved?
There was a flight change, which required a bus to the new terminal. The bus driver needed a special card and could not accept cash. The card machine was in Spanish and Spanish speakers couldn’t figure it out. At the last minute, I figured it out and was just in time for my flight.
What advice would you give to new travelers traveling internationally?
I would begin with countries that have a similar culture to avoid complete culture shock. I would then venture out from there. Travel confidence rises with each experience. I would consider a local tour guide. My first solo trip was to France.
Where are you traveling next?
The Lapland. It’s an interesting culture separate from Scandinavia.
It’s a magical place with Northern lights or midnight sun, depending on the season.
What do the words Crowned And Cultured mean to you?
A queen or king with knowledge of self that conveys class and dignity.
